NÜSHU: Written for Her, on Her, by Her
is a ritualistic performance rooted in Nüshu, the women’s script of southern China. Using her body as a living scroll, writer and performer Jiayi Chen inscribes ancient characters onto her skin through live body calligraphy, contemporary dance, and an original soundscape. The performance unfolds as an altar of remembrance, where writing becomes movement and the body becomes an archive of memory, grief, and feminine resistance. The work honors missing women and rewrites silenced histories through embodied language and voice.
